Here's the results:
Jack Mason-5th place
Bob Lock- 12th place
Nice job guys!
New Team Members!
Breaking news: Jack Mason is now an official member of C.R.R.T. Look
for him sporting the new kit in the spring. Jack is a great addition to
our very talented team. Welcome to the team!!
Also, this just in as well. Aaron Elwell is coming back to the team.
Aaron is a very talented mtb rider, cyclo-cross and road rider. I
believe he is now the owner of a PRO license in the mtb category.
If you see these guys out and about welcome them.
2009 should be a pretty exciting year for C.R.R.T.

Octiginta TT Report 10-4-08
-Steve Wathke
Great Day for C.R.R.T! we had 8 guys come out and race and enjoy some nice placings and refreshing beverages afterwards. I think that is becoming a yearly tradition. We had a few bumps in the road. Randy Cox was ill but he came out and raced anyway. What a trooper. Dennis Weinbeck went into the ditch and crashed from his start on the Cat 3 TT. I think the holder may have been a little to ambitious to get Dennis started. He got up and still finished 4th in that race. Many of us raced in the Cat 3, 4 &5 groups as well as the masters groups 35+ &45+. I think everyone that went the 2nd time was even faster. The wind seemed to pick up a lot more for the 2nd race but maybe we were jst smarter on how we raced the 2nd time because the results were better.Newcomer Pat Orrick was 2nd in the Cat 5's. Missed 1st place by 1 second!! Good times and a good way to end the year! Here are our team results:
Cat 3 (13 starters)
Dennis Weinbeck- 4th place-14:00
Jack Mason--------6th place-14:02
Cat 4 (13 starters)
Steve Luttjohann-2nd place-13:45
Steve Wathke------6th place-14:25
Cat 5 (30 starters)
Pat Orrick----------2nd place-14:34
James Davis--------5th place-15:03
Paul Engler---------9th place-15:36
Randy Cox---------11th place-16:17
Juniors 10-18 (5 starters)
Trevor Wathke----5th place--22:49
Master's 35+ (6 starters)
Jack Mason---------2nd place-13:48

KANSAS SENIOR OYLMPICS REPORT 9-23-08

The races got off to a rough start. Very wet slick technical course for the 5 k tt. Then it was time for the 20k road race, the course was pretty dry by then, Then it was time for the 10k tt, completly dry course, but still pretty technical. I have to tell you it was great seeing Larry Kietzman and Mike Baker, I haven't seen them in ages. They represented CRRT very well. I also had the pleasure to go head to head with my buddy, but when race time my arch rival Scott Sifferman all the way from Springfield. Boy that guy is really tough. The event was very poorly run, but I understood, the people running the event didn't have a clue on how to efficiently run a tt, or road race for that matter. But they were unpaid volunteers and they were really trying. Anyway these old man games are really fun, it is the competition plus the friendship. They all compete for the love of the sport, no attitudes no excuses. Also Glenda Taylor was there, kikking ass, I think she set the course record. Our very own Monday tt specialist Pat Bunch Killed everyone in the 70-74, he also lowered his oun course. I had to take a days vacation to do the race, it was well worth it.

St. Joseph Team Time Trial
9-6-08
C.R.R.T. had a great showing on Saturday. Dennis Weinbeck pulled off another 1st place. This I believe was the first team time trial anyone on our team has ever been a part of. Dennis won the Cat 3's with the help of Dena Parker and Mark Thomas. Their official time was 43:06.
We also won the Cat 5 race with a full squad of C.R.R.T members. James Davis, Randy Cox and Larry Langley has the fastest time for cat 5's with 46:46 seconds.

Ft. Riley Splash-n-Dash Triathlon Report

Steve Luttjohann and I went done to Ft. Riley to compete in the Ft. Riley Triathlon this year. I assumed that the swim would be in an indoor pool since it is September and Labor day has passed most people have thier outdoor pools closed. Guess what.....outdoor pool. The water was frigid and if I'd of known I could have worn a wetsuit I would have. I need all the help I can get. It was a very hilly bike course too. Wow!! I think that was probably a benefit for me though because I really passed a lot of people on the bike and when I came off for the run. I've never felt better. I felt like I could run all day. I ended up 2nd in my age group 31- 40 yr olds. I was beaten by Ric Rosenkranz. He is definitely in a league all by himself. He also won the overall all title while his wife Sara won the overall females. I don't know where I finished overall but I'm hoping for a top 10. Results have not been posted yet.
Steve Luttjohann had another excellent race. He won his age group 41-50 and I'm not for sure but I would guess him to be 4th overall. As with any race I always think I could've done better. My swimming still has a long way to go but I'm happy with the end result. Steve Luttjohann is my hero. He beat me by 6 minutes! He alreay had me by 5 minutes on the swim and I'm sure if he didn't have problems in transition he would've beat me a lot worse than that.
Topeka really does have some good athletes!

Jackson County Triathlon Report
8-24-08
Mixed results for the C.R.R.T. yesterday. A very impressive 4th place overall for Eric Winrich in the long course triathlon yesterday. Eric posted a 1:55:23 time in his race and was great in all facets of the sport.
Steve Luttjohann also had an excellent race going until he go to the running portion of the event. Although his running was going well, Steve did not see the turnaround and ran an extra 2-2.5 miles. Steve, you'll get 'em next time I'm sure. I think he would have had a top 5 for sure. Steve ended up with a 2:14:02 which is still pretty good considering. Steve Wathke did the short course and posted a 1:11:50.31st overall in the short course. A poor swim really cost him his race followed by a below average bike and an average run.
Great job of representing our team guys!!

Buckner TT Report
-James Davis
I will post the full results as soon as they are available but the
CRRT Team represented pretty well today.
Dennis and I made the trip to Buckner today along with a total of 78
participants. ..very nice turn out. Weather was super, 75ish and very
light E winds during the whole run. Course is a pretty smooth out
and back with one turn each way....a very flat course, power was the
key. The course was a full 10k. They started us in registration
order instead of by category so you really didn't know if you were
racing someone in your category or not. The TT was very well run and
results were posted quickly once all participants completed their
runs.
As soon as Dennis was seen in the area the folks started talking
about him posting fastest time of the day.....well guess what? As
usual he did just that, a smoking 13.32 in a tie with a guy about 1/2
his age. A very good run by Dennis!!
After a good run for me at the last Gardner TT I was hoping to back
it up with a decent run at Buckner...really hoping for a sub 15.30
run. I had 25 in my Cat 5 group and pulled off a 4th place with a
14.47 which is my fastest 10k ever. I was very, very pleased....but
I'm so sore I might not be able to get out of this chair when I'm
finished typing...... .
Full results when available.

After emailing the Garden City Ymca I was able to get the results for the Garden City Big Pool Triathlon. Eric Wenrich came away with the overall victory at this race. I'll bet they weren't all that happy when they saw who came home. Eric is originally from Garden City so this was something of a homecoming for him. The distances for the event were 400 meter swim, 12.5 mile bike & 5k run. Eric closest competitior was about 4 minutes behind him. Here are the results & congratulations!

It was an absolutely perfect night for a TT. NNE winds at 5-10mph,
82 degrees....can' t ask for much better.
As is the case more often than not Dennis posted the fastest time of
the night, he's an animal!!!! I did my first TT in over a year and
was pretty pleased with my time.
The times listed are correct but the average speeds are too high as
they calculate them for a 6.1 mile course and it is actually only
5.86 miles.

It was a very humid day which made for some interesting racing. Steve Luttjohann and I drove down today and were able to come back with a couple of plaques. Steve L. was 4th overall and had the #1 bike split. I finished up 8th overall and had the #2 bike split. We started the race in a thick fog and when I got on the bike it looked like my bike was sweating. It had condensation all over it. I felt like I was pretty slow on the bike but it turns out I did pretty well. My first run was horrible but I think I was pretty consistent and actually almost ran as fast on my 2nd run. The sun popped out right after the race was over which I think helped. I've had to walk in this race before due to heat but not today. Pretty fun race. Steve Luttjohann really had an awesome race. C.R.R.T. represented today!!

We had 3 competitors from C.R.R.T today and all 3 earned medals in their races.
Cade Wathke 9 & under--2nd place boys
Trevor Wathke 10-13 juniors-1st place boys
Steve Wathke Masters 35+- 3rd place (5th in race overall) racing with 45+ and 55+ age group.
Very hot race. For a while, I thought I was going to be dropped. It couldn't have been done without Jack Mason. He wanted to help me get the Gold and he told me to sit in this race while he would attack. Jack attacked the field on every lap and I think in the end that is what softened up the field. On the last lap Jack bridged me up to a guy who was off the front about 100yds?. Jack told me to go and I went. With a quarter lap to go me and this guy worked real hard to the finish line. we were caught at the last straight to the finish but I was only caught by 4 guys which made me feel pretty good. Jack is a heck of a guy to do that for me and I just wanted everyone to know that even though he doesn't officially race for our team he is still a true team player. It was very much appreciated. In reality it should've been Jack up there winning that race.
Great Race!

Congrats to all team mates who competed today. Not everyone received
a medal but that doesnt mean that they didn't race well. Darren Root
rode very well and he did a lot of work at the front! If it weren't
for an unfortunate incident with his chain coming off I think he
would've been a force to be reckoned with at the end. Same thing with
Steve Luttjohann. The poor guy had a flat on the first lap and he
didn't have any wheels in the wheel vehicle. I actually thought about
bringing my wheels but unfortunately didn't. He sure could've used
them. Steve is very powerful and I'm sure he would've placed at the
end. Rob Stork did well at the front and was a very smooth rider as
well. Dennis ended up pulling off 2nd in the 45+ group and I managed
a 3rd place in the 35+ race. Our plan was to attack on the big hill
with a lap to go but we ended up waiting until the last lap to try
that. We shelled a few riders with that acceleration. There were
still a lot of good guys at the end and it was a tough sprint. I was
pretty happy because the 2 guys who beat me in my age group were Cat
2 and Cat 3 respectively. Harlan Huey got 3rd place in his 1st road
race ever, the Cat 5 beginner class. I guess he won't be a beginner
for long now. Eric Winrich placed around 10th in his race. He had a
near crash with 300 meters to go and bent his wheel up. Luckily, he
was o.k. and did not crash.
It was a good day and we've got another one tomorrow. I hope to see
you guys there.

A poor swim really cost him his race followed by a below average bike and an average run.Great job of representing our team guys!! Gardner TT 8-7-08-James DavisIt was an absolutely perfect night for a TT. Steve ended up with a 2:14:02 which is still pretty good considering. Steve Wathke did the short course and posted a 1:11:50.31st overall in the short course. A poor swim really cost him his race followed by a below average bike and an average run.Great job of representing our team guys!! Gardner TT 8-7-08-James DavisIt was an absolutely perfect night for a TT. NNE winds at 5-10mph, 82 degrees....can' t ask for much better. As is the case more often than not Dennis posted the fastest time of the night, he's an animal!!!! I did my first TT in over a year and was pretty pleased with my time. The times listed are correct but the average speeds are too high as they calculate them for a 6.1 mile course and it is actually only 5.86 miles.Weinbeck, Dennis 0:12:32 29.20Price, Tom 0:12:49 28.56Henwood, Craig 0:12:50 28.52, Stan 0:12:56 28.30Lively, Jeff 0:13:04 28.01Thomas, Mark 0:13:20 27.45Maher, Matt 0:13:49 26.49Raupp, Jay 0:13:50 26.46Swift, Bert 0:13:59 26.17Angell, Patrick 0:14:05 25.99, Jim 0:14:06 25.96Miguel, Jesse 0:14:23 25.45Davis, James 0:14:27 25.33Hottman, Donovan 0:14:41 24.93Rimel, Robert 0:14:48 24.73Bunch, Patrick 0:14:55 24.54Breeding, Mark 0:15:14 24.03Gordon, Richard 0:15:18 23.92McGregor, Gary 0:15:23 23.79Smithmier, Michael 0:15:25 23.74Stevens, Donna 0:15:34 23.51Berger, Arthur 0:15:46 23.21Martens, Jamie 0:16:01 22.85Hoehn, Jim 0:16:23 22.34Procnor, Charles 0:16:30 22.18Vecchione, Joey 0:16:43 21.89Kopp, Brian 0:16:46 21.83Swift, Donna 0:16:56 21.61Weston, Paul 0:17:29 20.93Hoehn, Alex 0:18:06 20.22Hoehn, Sierra 0:22:25 16.33JamesBeautiful night for a TT, 80 degrees with a 10mph wind from the SE.We had 5 riders run the course with Danny Meredith & Randy Cox making their first ever TT runs.Randy Cox (aero) 14:57Danny Meredith (non-aero) 15:06Paul Engler (aero) 15:13 (non-aero) 15:22Elton Towne (non-aero) 16Congrats to all team mates who competed today. Not everyone receiveda medal but that doesnt mean that they didn't race well. Darren Rootrode very well and he did a lot of work at the front! If it weren'tfor an unfortunate incident with his chain coming off I think hewould've been a force to be reckoned with at the end. Same thing withSteve Luttjohann. The poor guy had a flat on the first lap and hedidn't have any wheels in the wheel vehicle. I actually thought aboutbringing my wheels but unfortunately didn't. He sure could've usedthem. Steve is very powerful and I'm sure he would've placed at theend. Rob Stork did well at the front and was a very smooth rider aswell. Dennis ended up pulling off 2nd in the 45+ group and I manageda 3rd place in the 35+ race. Our plan was to attack on the big hillwith a lap to go but we ended up waiting until the last lap to trythat. We shelled a few riders with that acceleration. There werestill a lot of good guys at the end and it was a tough sprint. I waspretty happy because the 2 guys who beat me in my age group were Cat2 and Cat 3 respectively. Harlan Huey got 3rd place in his 1st roadrace ever, the Cat 5 beginner class. I guess he won't be a beginnerfor long now. Eric Winrich placed around 10th in his race. He had anear crash with 300 meters to go and bent his wheel up. Luckily, hewas o.k. and did not crash. It was a good day and we've got another one tomorrow. A poor swim really cost him his race followed by a below average bike and an average run.Great job of representing our team guys!!
